Doing Lent This Year

Hey everyone,

I decided to participate in Lent this year.

It starts between February 14th to March 29th.

However, I’m putting my own twist on it.

Here’s what will happen:

  • I will celebrate it from February 15th to March 31st.
  • I will not spend any money I don’t need to spend from that period of time (no wants).
  • No Netflix, Hulu, DirecTV, nor any form of entertainment.
  • Classes I signed up for from the summit I attended will begin.
  • There will be more reading of books and blogs (that are financial or Christian).
  • I will be listening to videos and podcasts that are Christian or financial.
  • Most of the food sitting in my pantry and storage areas will be consumed.
  • Whatever money I save up will go towards the Dave Ramsey Financial Coaching class I want to take.
  • I will get involved in my church and community (and find a niche).
  • A house project will get done.

I celebrated Fat Tuesday last night and am celebrating Valentine’s Day today.

I will share recipes from those events next week.

Let me know what you all think.

Thank You and Have A Great Day,

Millennial Buddy

Changes going on at my church

Hey everyone,

There are some changes going on at my church.

My church will be moving to a bigger building (a former mega church building).

It’s going to be closer to my house.

I also won’t have to worry about waiting through red lights and parking issues anymore.

I hope with this change that I can be more involved and find my niche in that church.

Right now, I’m helping getting the church cleaned.

I also pray that more people will attend.

Please pray for my church.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

Trial I’m Going Through Right Now

Hey everyone,

Today’s post is going to be different than most posts.

I’m going to share with you a trial I’m going through right now.

Last week, I went to the dentist to get a chipped tooth filled.

As they were filling the tooth, they told me that I had to pay hundreds of dollars to get the tooth removed or pay thousands of dollars for a root canal.

Neither of those options sounded to thrilling.

I decided to pay the hundreds of dollars to get the tooth removed (I couldn’t afford to pay thousands of dollars for a root canal).

The issues I have with my decision are as follows….

  • I have to spend the extra money I had leftover in December to pay for the procedure.
  • I couldn’t find an oral surgeon close to my house to get the procedure done.
  • Because of that, I have to take a day off of work to get the procedure done (the appointment is an hour away). I hate missing work because it’s the busy time of year at work for me.
  • The appointment is early in the morning (I’m not an early morning person).
  • My dental insurance will not cover the procedure. I’m going to have to pay full price for it.

It sounds like a major trial.

But in the book of Job, Job had a lot of trials he had to face.

I think God is putting me through this to put my trust in Him and not myself.

I ask prayers for the situation I’m going through.

The appointment is next Friday morning.

I will give you all an update on this situation.

Please let me know if you have anything I can pray for you about.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

It’s Better To Give Than To Receive

Hey everyone,

This Christmas season has got me thinking about something.

Growing up as a kid, I was the kid that liked the receive things but didn’t like giving things to others.

I was the kid that wanted a lot of presents to open Christmas morning.

As I got older, I started getting less and less on Christmas.

A verse in Acts caught my attention on this subject.

Acts 20:35 (KJV) says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Through this verse, it’s more beneficial of me to give to others than to receive.

Jesus gave up his life on Earth so we can have a relationship with God.

There are people that need things that I can give to them (that I take for granted).

Recently, I have learned that it’s more important to help others that need something than wanting things that I don’t need.

However, I’m doing as much as I should be doing.

How can I be doing better at this?

  • Giving money each month to certain organizations I’m passionate about (e.g. feeding the hungry).
  • Volunteering at certain organizations and through church ministries.
  • Giving items I don’t need to other people that need them.
  • Helping others out that need my help.
  • Sharing my experiences with other people that are going through similar situations.

Please let me know how I can be better at giving.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

Why I’ve Chosen To Stay Single

Hey everyone,

A lot of people in my family (and some friends of mine) have been wondering why I’m 28 and still single.

I was reading 1 Corinthians this past week.

In chapter 7, it discusses about being married and single.

Verse 35 says that my choice on being married or single should depend on which relationship status I would be more effective with in serving God.

I have decided that I would be more effective with serving God by staying single.

It’s contrary to what most people my are doing or want to do.

Why I would be better staying single?

  • Less distractions- I would have more time to communicate with God and serve Him than I would if I was married.
  • More opportunities to serve- I would be able to serve in more ministries than I would have if I was married with kids.
  • I’m not ready for commitment right now- I need to grow more in the Lord before getting into a relationship with someone.

Please let me know your opinions on this.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

What I’m Thankful For

Hey everyone,

Thanksgiving is this week.

It’s not about the food that I will be eating this week.

It’s about remembering what I’m thankful for.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog post (https://www.millennialbuddy.com/2017/10/27/appreciate-what-you-have-in-life/), God can give and take away blessings in our lives (read the book of Job).

Today, I want to share 10 things I’m thankful for.

Here we go:

  • My family- They’re loving and helpful to me.
  • My church- It’s a blessing to be able to be at church where everyone serves the Lord and wants to grow in the Lord.
  • My house- It’s nice to have a place that protects me from the elements of the outdoors.
  • My car- I like being able to drive to the places I need to go.
  • My cat- He’s a great companion and protects me from the rodents that can come in my house.
  • My clothes- It’s nice to have clothes to wear all year round. Some people don’t get this luxury.
  • The area I live in- The cost of living is low and everyone is mostly friendly and helpful.
  • Thrift stores in my area- They’re a great place to find bargains on nice clothing and the money helps out needy people in the community.
  • My friends- They inspire me to do better each and everyday.
  • My job- Working at this job pays the bills I need to pay each month.

Please share with me what you’re thankful for.

Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving To You,

Millennial Buddy

There Are More Important Things To Life Than Football

Hey everyone,

I listened to and watch a lot of college football over the weekend.

My favorite team, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, had a major game this weekend.

They had to play on the road against the Miami Hurricanes.

The Irish got grilled 41 to 8.

It was not a pretty game.

Every time Notre Dame loses I get aggravated.

It made me realize something.

No matter if Notre Dame won or lost, life will go on.

Colossians 3:2 (KJV) says to focus on what comes from God and not worldly things.

To me, this means that God cares more about what we do with our lives on Earth than whether my favorite team won or lost.

I need to be focused more what I can be doing for God.

God needs to be the number one priority in my life.

How can I accomplish this?

  • Reading the Bible more thoroughly (and paying better attention to it).
  • Having a conversation with God through prayer (and not using memorized words).
  • Listening to sermons to learn more about God.
  • Showing the love of Christ to others (no matter where I’m at) by being kind to them and serving them.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

Am I loving other Christians?

Hey everyone,

Yesterday at church I went to a big dinner at church for a kid at my church’s youth program who is turning 16.

It made me realize something.

In John 13:34-35, God wants me to “love” other Christians as He has loved us (KJV).

Am I doing that?

Yes and no.

How am I doing that correctly?

By sacrificing time and money for the event to show the person and their family that they matter.

What could I be doing better?

  • Taking the initiative to say “Hello” and introduce myself to other people at my church.
  • Take time to get to know other members at my church better.
  • Going to events that I’m getting invited to.
  • Getting involved in the church and helping out in some way.

To me, from the verse I mentioned earlier, God wants me to sacrifice myself to love other Christians, as Christ did for us on the Cross.

I have to do a better job on that.

However, this does not mean that others can take advantage of me.

That happened to me at the church I went to before I started going to the church I currently attend.

Please let me know your thoughts on this topic.

Thank You and Have A Blessed Day,

Millennial Buddy

Do I Have The Heart God Wants Me To Have?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been reading from the book of Luke this week.

Something got to me.

In Luke 6:43-45 (KJV) it discusses through using trees with “good” and  bad “fruit” that positive qualities must be coming out of us if we have the heart that God wants us to have.

It made me think.

Do I have the heart that God wants me to have?

No.

Here’s why:

  • My patience gets very thin with some people that drive me crazy.
  • I’m bitter with the way some people have treated me in the past.
  • I need to be sharing my faith more with people outside of church.

To me, these qualities are of a “tree” that is producing rotten “fruit”.

What can I do to create the “good fruit” God wants us to create?

  • Learn how to deal with people that drive me crazy in a calmer manner. I have to learn to be nice to them and give them a chance.
  • Let go of how people treated me in the past. I can’t fix what happened in my past. It only hurts me and doesn’t help me get to where God wants me to be.
  • Become friends with people I encounter; build a relationship with them; and let them see Christ in me.

Please let me know any suggestions on having the character God wants me to have.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

Appreciate what you have in life

Hey everyone,

This past week, my house did not have running water.

It’s not because I didn’t pay the bill (I paid the bill before it came in the mail).

Most of my town was out of water.

They turned the water off due to the water being contaminated.

Thankfully, I had a couple of gallon jugs of water and bottled water.

However, I wasn’t able to wash clothes, dishes, flush the toilet, nor take showers.

Those are daily necessities in my life.

Water was something I always have taken for granted.

It made me realize that people in some areas of the world don’t have easy access to water like I do.

Because of that, I have learned to not take what I need to live for granted.

I need to stop worrying about what I wish I had and appreciate what God has blessed me with.

God could take away what I need at any time.

In Job 1, God took away everything Job owned.

That could happen to me.

If you had a similar experience to this, please share.

Thank You and Have A Great Day,

Millennial Buddy
