Trial I’m Going Through Right Now

Hey everyone,

Today’s post is going to be different than most posts.

I’m going to share with you a trial I’m going through right now.

Last week, I went to the dentist to get a chipped tooth filled.

As they were filling the tooth, they told me that I had to pay hundreds of dollars to get the tooth removed or pay thousands of dollars for a root canal.

Neither of those options sounded to thrilling.

I decided to pay the hundreds of dollars to get the tooth removed (I couldn’t afford to pay thousands of dollars for a root canal).

The issues I have with my decision are as follows….

  • I have to spend the extra money I had leftover in December to pay for the procedure.
  • I couldn’t find an oral surgeon close to my house to get the procedure done.
  • Because of that, I have to take a day off of work to get the procedure done (the appointment is an hour away). I hate missing work because it’s the busy time of year at work for me.
  • The appointment is early in the morning (I’m not an early morning person).
  • My dental insurance will not cover the procedure. I’m going to have to pay full price for it.

It sounds like a major trial.

But in the book of Job, Job had a lot of trials he had to face.

I think God is putting me through this to put my trust in Him and not myself.

I ask prayers for the situation I’m going through.

The appointment is next Friday morning.

I will give you all an update on this situation.

Please let me know if you have anything I can pray for you about.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

It’s Better To Give Than To Receive

Hey everyone,

This Christmas season has got me thinking about something.

Growing up as a kid, I was the kid that liked the receive things but didn’t like giving things to others.

I was the kid that wanted a lot of presents to open Christmas morning.

As I got older, I started getting less and less on Christmas.

A verse in Acts caught my attention on this subject.

Acts 20:35 (KJV) says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Through this verse, it’s more beneficial of me to give to others than to receive.

Jesus gave up his life on Earth so we can have a relationship with God.

There are people that need things that I can give to them (that I take for granted).

Recently, I have learned that it’s more important to help others that need something than wanting things that I don’t need.

However, I’m doing as much as I should be doing.

How can I be doing better at this?

  • Giving money each month to certain organizations I’m passionate about (e.g. feeding the hungry).
  • Volunteering at certain organizations and through church ministries.
  • Giving items I don’t need to other people that need them.
  • Helping others out that need my help.
  • Sharing my experiences with other people that are going through similar situations.

Please let me know how I can be better at giving.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

What It’s Like To Live In A Rural Area

Hey everyone,

This week I noticed that where I live is different than some places in the United States.

I live in a rural area in the United States (in the state of Georgia).

My house is 2 hours north of Atlanta.

I live where the Appalachian Mountains begin.

I live where Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina meet.

Anyways, enough about my location.

Today, I would like to share with you what it is like to live in my area.

Here are the pros of living in my area:

  • The air is cleaner in my area than cities and suburbs (due to the fact that there isn’t much traffic in my area). Because of that I can breathe easier.
  • There are several parks and nature places I can exercise at.
  • Because I can’t drive closeby to a mall or a nice restaurant/fast food restaurant, I’m saving money. I eat at home more often and go shopping for clothes and other needs at yard sales, thrift stores, discount stores, or online.
  • I live in a neighborhood where houses are spread out. This means that I have a decent size yard and some privacy.
  • My area is very quiet compared to living in the cities. I get to sleep easier than I would if I lived in an apartment in the city.
  • The people in my area are mostly nice and friendly. Most people in my town want to help out one another (whenever they can). Most of them are also Christians (this means that living for God is a popular option in my area).

Here are the cons of living in my area:

  • Mostly everything is spread out. I have to drive a distance to do anything. Not a lot happens in my area (Unless you’re a tourist. Tourists come to my area to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban and suburban life). I have to drive 15 minutes to the nearest Walmart and fast food restaurants. I have to drive over an hour to go to a mall or national chain restaurants (e.g. Applebees; Chili’s). This means that I can’t go out and do as much as I could if I lived in an urban or suburban area. No late night runs to a fast food restaurant (that I know some of you do).
  • The gyms in my area are pricier (because there’s not a lot of competition as in the urban and suburban areas).
  • There aren’t as many lights as there are in the city. Because of this, I have a harder time driving at night. I have to go slower at night to make sure I’m staying within the lines I’m supposed to stay in.
  •  A lot of people that are my age and single don’t live in my area. They live more in the urban and suburban areas. I would probably have to move to an urban or suburban area eventually. Most of the people I went to high school with have done that (or got married with kids and settled in my area). Most of my friends are through social media.

Even though my area is not the perfect place to live, I’ve learned to appreciate where God has placed me.

He has a purpose for me being here and I’m still figuring out what it is.

Please share with me on where you live.

Thank You and Have A Nice Day,

Millennial Buddy

Why I Celebrate Christmas

Hey everyone,

As we all know, the Christmas season is here.

Parties; family get-togethers; shopping and wrapping gifts; busy stores; cooking and baking; cleaning; eating; Christmas shows, movies, and specials on TV; decorating the house; special events going on at church; Christmas music playing everywhere; caroling; traveling; giving and helping needy families.

As you have noticed, a lot is going on this time of year.

It made me realize something.

Why am I celebrating a holiday that is stressful and chaotic?

To me, I do it to honor the birth of Jesus.

He is the one that God sent from Heaven to live a sinless life to die on the cross and rise on the third day, so that I can have eternal life with God.

Jesus paid for my sins (that I could not do on my own).

I celebrate Christmas to appreciate what Jesus has done in my life and thank God for his birth.

It’s not about presents, get-togethers, and decorations.

This time is meant to honor what God and Jesus did for me.

I didn’t deserve to have eternal life with God.

But God, thought me worthy of it through his son Jesus.

I have to remember that throughout the season or I won’t be appreciative of this holiday.

Please let me know what you think about Christmas.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

Why I’ve Chosen To Stay Single

Hey everyone,

A lot of people in my family (and some friends of mine) have been wondering why I’m 28 and still single.

I was reading 1 Corinthians this past week.

In chapter 7, it discusses about being married and single.

Verse 35 says that my choice on being married or single should depend on which relationship status I would be more effective with in serving God.

I have decided that I would be more effective with serving God by staying single.

It’s contrary to what most people my are doing or want to do.

Why I would be better staying single?

  • Less distractions- I would have more time to communicate with God and serve Him than I would if I was married.
  • More opportunities to serve- I would be able to serve in more ministries than I would have if I was married with kids.
  • I’m not ready for commitment right now- I need to grow more in the Lord before getting into a relationship with someone.

Please let me know your opinions on this.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

What I’m Thankful For

Hey everyone,

Thanksgiving is this week.

It’s not about the food that I will be eating this week.

It’s about remembering what I’m thankful for.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog post (https://www.millennialbuddy.com/2017/10/27/appreciate-what-you-have-in-life/), God can give and take away blessings in our lives (read the book of Job).

Today, I want to share 10 things I’m thankful for.

Here we go:

  • My family- They’re loving and helpful to me.
  • My church- It’s a blessing to be able to be at church where everyone serves the Lord and wants to grow in the Lord.
  • My house- It’s nice to have a place that protects me from the elements of the outdoors.
  • My car- I like being able to drive to the places I need to go.
  • My cat- He’s a great companion and protects me from the rodents that can come in my house.
  • My clothes- It’s nice to have clothes to wear all year round. Some people don’t get this luxury.
  • The area I live in- The cost of living is low and everyone is mostly friendly and helpful.
  • Thrift stores in my area- They’re a great place to find bargains on nice clothing and the money helps out needy people in the community.
  • My friends- They inspire me to do better each and everyday.
  • My job- Working at this job pays the bills I need to pay each month.

Please share with me what you’re thankful for.

Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving To You,

Millennial Buddy

There Are More Important Things To Life Than Football

Hey everyone,

I listened to and watch a lot of college football over the weekend.

My favorite team, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, had a major game this weekend.

They had to play on the road against the Miami Hurricanes.

The Irish got grilled 41 to 8.

It was not a pretty game.

Every time Notre Dame loses I get aggravated.

It made me realize something.

No matter if Notre Dame won or lost, life will go on.

Colossians 3:2 (KJV) says to focus on what comes from God and not worldly things.

To me, this means that God cares more about what we do with our lives on Earth than whether my favorite team won or lost.

I need to be focused more what I can be doing for God.

God needs to be the number one priority in my life.

How can I accomplish this?

  • Reading the Bible more thoroughly (and paying better attention to it).
  • Having a conversation with God through prayer (and not using memorized words).
  • Listening to sermons to learn more about God.
  • Showing the love of Christ to others (no matter where I’m at) by being kind to them and serving them.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions.

Thank You and God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

A Thank You Note To The Veterans and Soldiers

Hey everyone,

This post is late.

Veteran’s Day was this past weekend.

I’m writing this post as a note of appreciation to all of the veterans and anyone serving in the United States military (all branches).

Here it goes:

Dear Veterans and everyone currently serving in the United States military:

Thank you for everything you all do.

You all have done a wonderful job protecting the rights and freedoms I have in the United States of America.

You all have sacrificed your lives and bodies for my life and body.

You all have gone through a lot that I would have struggled going through.

You are all heroes to me.

You all inspire me to go on in life.

I give high honor and respect to you all.

You all are a blessing from God.

Hugs and salutes to each one of you.

If you ever need someone to talk to (or a friend), I’m here (and at your service).

I love you all from the bottom of my heart.

May God Bless You,

Millennial Buddy

Am I loving other Christians?

Hey everyone,

Yesterday at church I went to a big dinner at church for a kid at my church’s youth program who is turning 16.

It made me realize something.

In John 13:34-35, God wants me to “love” other Christians as He has loved us (KJV).

Am I doing that?

Yes and no.

How am I doing that correctly?

By sacrificing time and money for the event to show the person and their family that they matter.

What could I be doing better?

  • Taking the initiative to say “Hello” and introduce myself to other people at my church.
  • Take time to get to know other members at my church better.
  • Going to events that I’m getting invited to.
  • Getting involved in the church and helping out in some way.

To me, from the verse I mentioned earlier, God wants me to sacrifice myself to love other Christians, as Christ did for us on the Cross.

I have to do a better job on that.

However, this does not mean that others can take advantage of me.

That happened to me at the church I went to before I started going to the church I currently attend.

Please let me know your thoughts on this topic.

Thank You and Have A Blessed Day,

Millennial Buddy
